John died December 10, 2011 in Roseland, LA. OBIT: Celebration of Life Memorial Services for John Leeston Smith, of Roseland, La., formerly of Brookhaven, are 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at First United Methodist Church in Amite, La. The Rev. Brady Whitton will be officiating. Internment is 11 a.m. on Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wesson. McKneely and Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is Friday from 5 until 6 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Smith, 74, died Dec. 10, 2011, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Oct. 27, 1937, to Garland Lee and Julia Vivian Waldon Smith.
He was retired from LP&L after 40 years of service and he loved to shop at Wal-Mart.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Brian Ashley Smith; and grandson, Warren Buonagura Jr.
Survivors are his wife, Marie Wachtel Smith, of Rosaland, La.; daughters, Dr. Christina B. Givens and husband, Waylon, of Amite, La., Dr. Angela B. Lyle and husband, Matthew, of Rogers, Ark., Lisa B. Cambre and husband, "Tee", of Orlando, Fla., and Marie B. Landry and husband, Lance, of Metairie, La.; sons, Warren A. Buonagura and wife, Tara, of Metairie, La., and Kirk Patrick Smith; 9 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy Glenn Smith and wife, Faye, of Brookhaven, and Jack Randall Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Union Church; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He married twice. He married Billy King.
John Leeston Smith and Marie Wachtel had the following children:
