Adeline died August 19, 2014. OBIT: SINKWICH, Adeline Weatherly Athens. Adeline Weatherly Sinkwich, 92, passed away peacefully on August 19th, 2014. A native of Royston, Georgia, Mrs. Sinkwich was the daughter of Charles and Mary Weatherly. Mrs. Sinkwich attended the University of Georgia where she met and later married Frank Sinkwich of Youngstown, Ohio who became the University of Georgia's and the South's first Heisman Trophy winner in 1942. Mrs. Sinkwich was an accomplished Broadway dancer and gave birth to two children, Frank Sinkwich Jr. and Francine Sinkwich. Miss Adeline, as she became affectionately known, was a devout Christian and lived the remainder of her life in Athens, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Sinkwich Sr. and her son Frank Sinkwich Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Francine Sinkwich, daughter-in-law Marilyn Sinkwich, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Audrey Beck, her loving caregiver and dear friend for eight years. Graveside services will be held 10AM Friday, August 22nd at Evergreen Memorial Park. She married Frank Frances Sinkwich. Frank was born October 10, 1920 in McKees Rocks, PA. Frank was the son of Louis Sinkwich. Frank died October 22,1990 in Athens, Clarke Co., GA. IBUTL Professional football player. He was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, and went to Chaney High School in Youngstown, Ohio. Francis Frank Sinkwich was recruited to go to the University of Georgia in 1939. At Georgia he was a two-time All-American, won the Walter Camp Award and Heisman Trophy in 1942. He was the first player taken in the 1943 NFL draft. He was a halfback on the Detroit Lions in 1943 and 1944. He led the league in punting in 1943. He was an All Pro in 1943 and 1944 and the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1944. He got the nickname "Flatfoot" after being discharged from basic training in the Marine Corps in 1943 because of flat feet. After serving a year in the military, he signed with the New York Yankees of the All America Football Conference. A knee injury suffered in a game playing on the Second Air Force Superbombers team in 1945 diminished his talents. He played with New York in 1946 and started the 1947 season with the Yankees, but was traded to the Baltimore Colts. He retired after the season ended. He owned a beer and wine distribution business in Athens, Georgia. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954 and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1967.
