General Notes: Phanor Breazeale (December 29, 1858 '96 April 29, 1934) was a U.S. Representative from Louisiana's 4th congressional district.
Born in Natchitoches Parish in north central Louisiana, Breazeale attended private schools. In 1877, at the close of Reconstruction, he moved to Natchitoches, the parish seat.
He worked in a mercantile establishment for two years and studied law. He relocated to New Orleans, where he was a clerk in the Louisiana Supreme Court. He graduated in 1881 from the Roman Catholic-affiliated Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, was admitted to the bar that same year, and began his law practice in Natchitoches, the oldest established city in the state. From 1882 to 1884, Breazeale was also engaged in newspaper work.
From 1888 to 1891, he was the president of the Natchitoches Parish School Board. He was elected district attorney for the 10th Judicial District, having served from 1892 to 1899. He was a member of the Louisiana state constitutional convention in 1898, which drew up a document in existence for twenty-three years. Thereafter, he was a member of the state constitutional convention of 1921.
Breazeale was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth, Fifty-seventh, and Fifty-eighth Congresses (March 4, 1899 - March 3, 1905). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1904, having been defeated by the attorney John T. Watkins of Minden in Webster Parish. He then resumed the practice of law in Natchitoches. He was appointed in October 1908 member of a commission to codify Louisiana's criminal laws and to prepare a code of criminal procedure.
Breazeale was a member of the Democratic State central committee from 1908 until his death. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1908 and again in 1916.
Breazeale died in Natchitoches and is interred at the Catholic Cemetery there.
Phanor married Marie Chopin, daughter of Dr. J. B. Chopin and Julia Benoist. Marie died on 5 Sep 1926.7

Felix Breazeale, son of Drury Wood Breazeale, son of John Jackson #201, son of Dr. Willis #31, must have more than the mere mention which has been accorded others of his generation because he is one member of the Breazeale clan who attained world-wide fame. An item from a newspaper at the time of his death tells the story. "Louden, February 10, 1943.
"Uncle Bush" Breazeale, who heard his own funeral preached five years ago, is dead. He died peacefully last night at the cabin in the hills near Kingston, where he had lived alone most of his 78 years. Quinn's Funeral Home at Louden, which gave its service for the funeral on Sunday, June 28, 1938, today said that burial will be at Cave Creek Cemetery. It is at his own request that no funeral is being held, that the burial is in his own casket and that the body will lie in state for an hour at the cemetery before interment."
The old fox hunter had planned a quiet service five years ago. "Just wanted to hear what the preacher has to say about me while I am alive," he had explained to A. Summers, at that time editor of the Roane Counter Banner. A small item in the Banner was picked up by an A. P. Reporter and the story went round the world on wires. Instead of the few Uncle Bush had expected, cars jammed Dogwood Lane and a crowd estimated at 8,000 spread in all directions from the little church in the glade by the stream. Traffic officers were called out but could do little with the throng. Some women fainted in the crush. When the hearse arrived, his fox hunting friends, acting as his pall bearers, had some difficulty opening the way for the "corpse" to walk to his place beside his hand-hewn, hand-polished, and flower-decked casket. It was a hot day as Reverend Charles Jackson preached the sermon with many words of fullsome praise for the old man who was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Uncle Bush mopped his brow, fanned himself gently, stirring his white hair and whiskers, and thoroughly enjoyed the unique ceremony. The "Friendly Eight Octette" sang his favorite hymn, "On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand" as the solemn "ashes to ashes" were intoned and the service ended. Afterwards Uncle Bush shook hands with thousands and signed his mark, a scrawled "x" on hundreds of cards and books. "Folks, I'm tellin' ya, this business of having your funeral before you die beats sparkin' in a buggy, " he chuckled. Someone asked him why he had never married and he explained that he couldn't get the woman he wanted and wouldn't have the women he could get. Then Uncle Bush went back to his hillside cabin and to his almost constant companion for seventeen years - "Mule" - just a mule he had taught to do tricks as a colt-"a heap smarter than most folks you meet," he said.
But the excitement was not completely over. Letters poured in from many of the states and several foreign countries. One girl in Germany wanted Bush to write to her. When Uncle Bush made one of his infrequent visits to Knoxville he would drop by the News-Sentinel office to again express his appreciation and to show his fan mail.
Felix was an uncle to the late Martin Littleton, famous New York Lawyer, and of Mrs. Rachael Vanderbilt Morgan. His father, D. W. Breazeale, married Sarah Littleton.

General Notes: Oldest son of John Jackson Breazeale, born in Roane county Tennessee on December 4th 1833. Nothing is known of his childhood days, but information in the hands of Mrs Grace Keiffer of Redlands Ca. leads her to believe that J.J.C. came to south Missouri in 1848 by wagon train with 13 families. Among them were two of his Aunts and their husbands, Melinda and William Stephenson, her sister Sarah W. and her husband William Vaughan. This would have made J.J.C. about 15 years old. He lived with relatives in south Missouri for about two years. He then returned to Roane County, Tennessee and married Elizabeth Kollock on December 31, 1851. He then returned and settled in Christian county Mo. Very little is known about Elizabeth Kollock. Her parents didn't want her to marry J.J.C. and tried to hide her from him some place in south Missouri. She is probably the reason he came to south Mo. the first time. Elizabeth also had a twin sister that lived in St Louis at one time. There were three children by this marriage and Elizabeth died October 27, 1862.
On January 15, 1863 he married Charlotte Cave a neighbor. She bore him three children and she died January 27, 1868.
On May 7, 1868 he married a third wife, Mary Chrisman, She bore him two children and she died August 18, 1918.
John Jefferson Clark Breazeale was a very intelligent man. He served a term in the Missouri Legislature. Formed the Bank Of Ozark, also served as sheriff of Christian county. He liked nice things, lived very high. He became one of the wealthiest men in the country. As each of his eight children were married, he gave them an 80 acre farm and a horse and buggy.

General Notes: James and Nancy met and married in 1858. She was about 14 years old and he was 21. Their first child was born about 1859. They lived in Neshoba County, Miss. just west of Zamma, Miss. They lived here until 1861 at which time they moved to Catahoula Parish, Louisiana to be with Nancy's mother and family.
Nancy's father and mother had moved here several years before, and during the war between the states Nancy's father and oldest brother were killed. They lived with the Walkers until 1866. Then they moved back to their old house in Neshoba County, Miss. Nancy's mother remarried and then moved to Texas.
The 3rd child of James and Jane was born in Louisiana. By 1868 they were back in Neshoba Co. because Julia, their 4th child, was born in Mississippi as were all their other children. James and family lived in Neshoba Co. until about 1896 at which time James sold his farm in Neshoba Co. to his oldest son William M. Breazeale. James and his family then moved to Attala Co. Miss. about 7 miles southeast of Kosciusko, Miss. Here they lived until their death.
There are still grandchildren and great, great grandchildren living there today. Others are in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. I have listed all of James and Jane's children. Nancy Jane Walker Breazeale was born in Neshoba Co. in the year 1844. She died at her son Thomas' home in 1933. James Pickney Breazeale was born 1838 in Kemper Co. Miss. Died 1910. Nancy Jane was the daughter of Sampson and Martha Jane Walker of Hills Bluff, Mississippi. The Breazeales and Walkers The father of James Pickney Breazeale was Elijah Bushaloo Breazeale, Sr. who moved with his family from South Carolina to Green county, Alabama sometime about 1820. This is where James Pickney Breazeale was born. Then, about 1840, Elijah and family moved to Neshoba County, Mississippi where James grew up. They lived at Hills Bluff, Mississippi near where James met and married Nancy Jane Walker.
The Walkers had moved to Neshoba County, Mississippi about 1835. James and Nancy married in Neshoba County, Mississippi about 1858. They farmed here until the fall of 1859. Then James and Nancy moved to Holmes Co., Mississippi where they had their first child, William M. Breazeale. They stayed here and farmed until their second child was born in the winter of 1861. James and Nancy were moving west to find more fertal farmland. They arrived and settled in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana in the spring of 1862. They were settled in their new home and probably had time to plant a garden.
Here the Civil War caught up with them and James enlisted in March 1862. He was gone from home during the war until after the surrender in 1865. James was discharged about June of 1865 and returned to Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. They farmed here until about 1867 at which time they decided to move back to Neshoba County, Mississippi. Their journey back to Mississippi was one big problem after another. They had just had their third child before moving. They packed all of their belongings on a wagon pulled by two oxen. This was the winter of 1867.
They crossed the Mississippi River near Natchez, Mississippi. On the east side of the river they had to camp for several days. They built a large fire and dried out their possessions and to give some comfort to their three small children. On their way from this crossing, one of the oxen became lame and James and Nancy had to take turns helping the lame ox pull the wagon. They probably journeyed up the Natchez Trace going home because this much-traveled trail came within twenty miles of their old homeplace there in Neshoba County, Mississippi.
They arrived in Neshoba County, Mississippi sometime in 1868 because their fourth child was born here in 1868. They stayed here until 1898. At this time a tornado destroyed their home.
James sold the land to his oldest son William and James and Nancy moved to Attala County, Mississippi, southeast of Kosciusko, Mississippi and lived their until their death. James died in 1910 and Jane died in 1933 at her son Thomas' home. To back up in our story of James and Nancy Breazeale, it should be noted that Nancy's father and mother, with their children, had moved from Neshoba County, Mississippi to Catahoula Parish, Louisiana about 1862.
The Walkers lived very near where James and Nancy lived because, according to the story, they could hear the sound of cannon fire in the distance when Nancy's father Sampson Walker and his oldest son John James Walker left home to join the fight during the Civil War. Then there is the story of how William Walker, the next oldest son of Sampson Walker, would stay at night with his sister Nancy Jane Breazeale to offer some comfort to her and her small children during those frightening times of the Civil War.
It is said that William would go to his sister Nancy's home at times during the days when the military would go from house to house looking for young boys to go into military during the time the war was going badly for the Southern Forces. Sampson Walker enlisted April 15, 1862 and was on the causlaty list July 1, 1862. He was killed in the engagement at Richmond, Virginia. J
John James Walker enlisted April 16, 1862 and was in the hospital at Port Gibson, Mississippi in 1862 where he died from the measles and other complications of that day.
Sometime about 1864, Martha J. McCowan Walker, the wife of Sampson Walker, married James Sorrell, a part-time Baptist preacher. It is not known where they were married, but I feel sure it was in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. There were two children born to Martha and James, one in 1865 and the other in 1867.
Martha and her Walker children with the two Sorrell children, moved to Keatchie, DeSota Parish, Louisiana. They were there in 1870, but about 1875, they moved to Joaquin, Texas. Martha died in 1880 and is buried in Brookland Cemetery in Haslam, Texas. Martha's children all made their homes in Joaquin or nearby. There are many grandchildren living there today. Note: It must be noted that all the dates and times are not altogether accurate because these stories of the Breazeales and Walkers are handed down from generation to generation and may have lost something over the years. General Notes: William W. Adcock, the oldest son of Sam and Hulda, was born June 30, 1831, in Greene County, Alabama.
When a state of war was declared between the United States and the Confederate States, William enlisted in Neshoba County and went into the Army. He served in Company G, 40th Mississippi Infantry, Confederate States Army. This unit was known as the "Dixie Rangers" and was commanded by Captain M. S. Latimer. It was organized on April 27, 1862.
William Adcock's enlistement date was May 9, 1862. He was taken prisoner by the United States Army in the fall of 1862 at the Battles of Iuka/Corinth, and was later paroled. He was discharged from the Confederate Army in May of 1865.
In July of 1850, in Kemper County, Mississippi, William Adcock married Sophrona Clementine Fielder, who was born in Green County, Alabama, on October 30, 1826. At the time of their marriage, he was 19 and she was 23.
He died April 5, 1894, and Sophrona died April 15, 1910, and both are buried at Bethal Church in Leake County, Mississippi.
William and "Fronie" Fielder Adcock reared six sons and two daughters: William A. (Ab), James (Jimmy), Joseph, Frank, Ann Eliza, Sophrona, Thomas Tennson (Tenny), and Simeon.
William (Ab) married Sara Ann Breazeale and moved to Jones County. Jimmy married Sarah Duett the first time and a Breazeale the second time and lived in Winston County. Joe married Sarah Ann Kea the first time and a Scrivner the second time and resided in Neshoba County. Frank married Sarah Ardella Scrivner and they lived in Attala County. Anna Eliza married William Franklin Pope and lived in Neshoba County. Sophrona married Enoch Pope and also lived in Neshoba County. (The Popes were brothers). Simeon married Mattie Lou Todd and resided in Winston County.

General Notes: Felix Martin Autry moved from Tennessee in a covered wagon when he was a 10 year old boy and settled in Cooke County, Texas. His father was a Baptist preacher. He had ten brothers and sisters: Cal, Tom, Will, Delbert (who was the father of the famous movie star, Gene Autry), Homer, Luda, Minnie, Meda, Nora, and Lula. In November 1919, this family moved to Silverton making the trip in a Model T. They shipped their household goods and livestock by train and these arrived in a snowstorm in Lockney. Wagons were used to complete the moving of furniture and animals. The livestock had to be left on the road that cold snowy night but somehow survived. They located on what was known as the P. A. Jones farm, southeast of Silverton, at that time. They farmed here until 1924 at which time they made their home in Silverton and lived there the remainder of their lifetime. Mr. Autry was a deacon in the First Baptist Church. Also, they lived to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Mrs. J. M. Thompason still resides in their h ome. Two grandsons, Martin and Joe Bean work the farmland at the present time. This information was taken from "Foot Prints of Time", Briscoe County 1876-1976.
