OBIT: Bonnie Croft Raper, Of Athens Died peacefully early Sunday morning, June 8, 2008, at her home She was born June 5, 1922, in Madisonville, TN. to the late Robert and Annie Peeler Croft and was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Werner and Ruby Moses. Having grown up in Mt Vernon, TN, she raised her family in Athens and attended Hiwassee College and Tennessee Wesleyan College where she graduated in 1958. She was employed by the McMinn County Board of Education and taught for more than 30 years at Englewood Elementary School. Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years William A. Raper of Athens One daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Danny Langston of Athens Two grandsons and spouses, Bill and Pam Langston of Cookeville Rob and Emily Langston of Athens One great grandson: Harrison Langston
She married William Athel Raper January 6, 1980 in NC. William was born April 24, 1918 in Monroe Co., TN. William was the son of Joseph Raper and Cordelia (___). William died December 15, 2008 in Athens, McMinn Co TN. OBIT: William Athel Raper, 90, of Athens, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at his home.
A native of Monroe County, and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Cordelia Raper, and was a member of Pope Avenue Baptist Church. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II and retired from Mayfield in 1978. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie C. Raper, in June 2008; four sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dan Langston of Athens; two grandsons and their spouses, Bill and Pam Langston and their son, Harrison, all of Cookeville, and Rob and Emily Langston of Athens; a special sister-in-law, Imogene Raper; several nieces and nephews; and two special feline companions, Thomas J. and Scooter.
He had special caregivers during the years of his illness and cared very much for them: Teresa Evans, Jane Dunn, Jennifer Hale, Minnie Thomas, JoAnn Goforth, Kitty Aaron, Holly Griffin and Mark Morgan.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Van Elkins officiating.
