OBIT: Ernest Lawrence Gilchrist , 55, of Solway, MN died Friday, November 14, 2014 at his home. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Solway Cemetery in Solway, Minnesota under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Ernie was born November 30, 1958 in Bemidji, MN the son of Elvin and Opal (Burgoon) Gilchrist. He was raised and educated in Solway and Bemidji. He attended the Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech for auto repair. He worked at the Bemidji Speedway with the race cars. He could tune the engines by ear to be the hottest cars on the track. He logged with his father for many years. He was an extremely hard worker, and was able to cut and skid up to 20 cords in one day. He worked many years with the pipeline as a clearing crew member with Laborers International Union # 563. His favorite pastimes were gardening and feeding the squirrels and deer. He is survived by his father- Elvin of Backus, MN, his mother Opal Rognstad of Leonard, MN, sister- Edith (Bob) Christofferson of Shevlin, MN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Everett in 1973, and aunts, uncles and grandparents.
