Adkin died January 25, 2010 in Morehead City, Carteret Co., NC. OBIT: Adkin A. "Sam" Stainback, 90, of Morehead City, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at Carteret General Hospital. Mr. Stainback was born and reared in Vance County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while in the European Theater. He began his career at Motor Sales in Henderson, NC. For 15 years he drove a bus for D.C. Transit and Trailways in Washington, DC. His first retirement was from a General Motors dealership in Tarboro, NC, later retiring from Montgomery Ward in Rocky Mount and after moving to Morehead City, he began his last retirement from Kittrell Auto Parts. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City and served on the Transportation Committee for numerous years. Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Royal officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Hilda Stainback of Morehead City; daughter, Deborah S. Butler and husband Charles of Morehead City; two sons, Donald F. Stainback of Oxford and Michael K. Stainback and wife Beth Ann of Raleigh; brother, Brady T. Stainback of Louisburg; and six grandchildren, Morgan Butler, Elizabeth Butler, Justin Stainback, Alyson S. Barker, Christian Stainback, and Sara Ann Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adkin A. Stainback, Sr. and Elsie Watkins Stainback and one sister Ethleen S. Brown. The family would like to thank Lisa Harvey, Tanya Dorn and Sadie Reels for the loving care they gave to Sam during this past year.
He married Hilda Lunsford 1958. Hilda died July 25, 2014 in Morehead City, Carteret Co., NC. OBIT: Hilda Stainback, 82, of Morehead City died July 25, 2014, at Crystal Bluffs.Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Memorial Park with Nate Leonard officiating.She was a legal secretary.She was preceded in death by her husband, Adkin A. Stainback Jr.Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Butler of Morehead City; brother, Allen Lunsford of Tarboro; sisters, Evelyn Morgan of Durham, Grace Stone of Shallote; and two grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. before at Munden Funeral Home. -
