She married Charles (Charlie) Edwin. Clarke JR 1949. Charles was born Aptil 29, 1920 in Kenly, Johnston Co., NC. Charles was the son of Charles Edwin. Clarke and Fedora Haxall. Charles died May 8. 2002 in Raleigh, Wake Co., NC. OBIT: Mr. Charles "Charlie" Edwin Clarke Jr., formerly of Lewisville, died May 8, 2002, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh after a brief illness.

He was born April 29, 1920, in Kenly to the late Fedora Haxall and the Rev. Charles Clarke.

In his early years, being in a Presbyterian minister's family, he lived several places and was known as "Ed." He served in the Army Air Force in transportation stateside and in the Philippines, and held the rank of lieutenant. The GI Bill gave Charlie an opportunity to attend college at West Virginia University and graduate from N.C. State University. He was very proud that his daughter, son-in-law and grandson were also N.C. State graduates. Charlie was a civil engineer in road construction with state, city and private employment. He was most notable at L.A. Reynolds Co. in Winston-Salem and retired from the city of Winston-Salem. He always enjoyed the roar and grind of heavy equipment and the progress of a project. For 35 years Charlie and Juanita lived in their dream home in Lewisville. Charlie held several leadership roles in Lewisville United Methodist Church. He was an avid and competitive bridge player. Although dedicated to his profession, he enjoyed fishing and RV camping. Charlie spent many enjoyable months traveling across America; summers in Myrtle Beach and winters in Melbourne Beach, Fla. After retirement from construction, he enjoyed developing a love of steam locomotives.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles "Joe" E. Clarke III in 1965. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Juanita Stainback Clarke, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Billy Quinton of Angier; grandchil-dren Steve Quinton and Mindy Quinton of Raleigh; his brother and sister-in-law, Nancy and L.H. "Hax" Clarke of Pine Level; and nephew and family, Bill and Susie Clarke (children Matthew, Elizabeth and Michael).

Charlie dedicated his last few years in the care of his wife and his daughter and son-in-law with treasured memories, trust, respect, admiration and love. He affectionately called Billy "Boss" and Marsha was the love of his life. He will be remembered as a loyal, outspoken, inventive, outgoing man with a zest for life. His presence and stories will be missed.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewisville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Routh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
