He married Opal McKinney. Opal was born October 30, 1920. Opal was the daughter of Pleas Emmett McKinney and Haley Diane (___). Opal died April 26, 2000 in McMinn Co, TN. OBIT: Opal McKinney King, 79, of Athens, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
A native and resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Plastic Industries. She was an avid quilter and member of the McMinn Senior Citizens.
A daughter of the late Pleas Emmett and Haley Diane McKinney, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert King on Nov. 14, 1957; and one great-granddaughter, Makayla Denee Snipes on Oct. 14, 1997.
Survivors include six children and spouses, Reba and Marshal McKinney, Shirley and Brent Newberry, Mary and Gary Scarbrough, Albert Junior and Diane King, Patsy Lee Womack and Stevie E. King; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mabel M. Dennis and Albert Jackson and Blanche Norwood; four brothers and six sisters-in-law, Willard and Mildred McKinney, Carl and Louisa McKinney, Fred and Vaudine McKinney, Scott and Carolyn McKinney, Opal Sneed King and Mary Jane King Oliver; 14 grandchildren, Marsha Sue M. Hinshaw, Charlcie N. Ingram, Libby Diane McKinney, Randall Scarbrough, Stuart T. McKinney, Jennifer N. Robinson, Lori M. Giles, Melissa King, Jamie N. Satherlie, Robert L. Scarbrough, Dana W. Brewer, Kim K. Snipes, Jonathan B. Newberry and Jessica King; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Minister Bob Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randall Scarbrough, Robert Scarbrough, Stuart McKinney, Doug Ingram, Bill Snipes and Brian Brewer.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
