Eldon died April 11, 2015 in Oakland Park, Johnson Co., KS. OBIT: Eldon B. Steers, age 86, of Overland Park, KS formerly of Bowling Green, passed away April 11, 2015 at the Sunrise Senior Living Facility in Overland Park, KS.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Lay Pastor Chris Gamm officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Louisiana with military honors being conducted by the VFW Post 5553 and the Missouri Military Honors. Visitation will be held 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the funeral home.

Eldon was born June 16, 1928 in Frankford, the son of John and Lena Marie Bruch Steers. On February 16, 1952 in New London he married Betty Jo Ogden. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2011. Survivors include daughter Eldonna Chesnut and husband John of Gardner, KS; grandson Justin Chesnut; two step grandchildren Holly Chesnut and Andrea Trowbridge; three great grandchildren Savannah, Aurora and Jake; Aunt Delphine Brawner of Louisiana; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and infant son John Leslie Steers.

Eldon was a lifelong resident of Pike County, living in Frankford, Louisiana and Bowling Green before moving to Olathe, KS and then to Overland Park, KS. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Eldon worked at Standard Oil and Shell Oil most of his life and briefly worked at the Bowling Green R-1 School and other various jobs. He was a member of the Lions Club, Elks Club and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5553. Eldon enjoyed collecting antique toys, gardening, playing cards, Bonanza and Bingo.

Serving as pallbearers will be Argil Ellison, Greg Ellison, Keith Wescott, Bob Tepen, David Cerven and James Allen.

He married Betty Jo Henderson February 16. 1952 in New London, Ralls Co., MO. Betty was born January 7, 1931 in Bowling Green, Pike Co., MO. Betty was the daughter of Leslie Ray Henderson and Helen Straube. Betty died October 9, 2011 Olathe, Johnson Co, KS. OBIT: Betty Jo Steers, 80, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Bowling Green died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 at the Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green, with Chris Gamm officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m.,Wednesday at the funeral home. Betty was born Jan. 7, 1931 in Bowling Green the daughter of Les and Helen Straube Henderson. She married Eldon Steers on Feb. 16, 1952 in New London. He survives. Other survivors include daughter, Eldonna Chesnut and husband, John; a brother, Ray Henderson and wife, Elizabeth, a grandson, Justin Chesnut; step granddaughters, Holly Chesnut, Andrea Trowbridge; great-grandchildren, Aurora Trowbridge, Jake Trowbridge, Savanah Chesnut; a nephew, Kevin Henderson and wife, Bridget, along with their son, Seth; nieces, Chris Elmore and husband, Ed, Kimberly Mayfield and husband, Tom, along with their children, Mitchell, Morgan, Kinsey and Sophia; an aunt, Delphine Brawner. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Leslie Steers. She was a lifelong resident of Pike County, living in Louisiana and Bowling Green, before moving to Olathe, Kan., in April of 2007. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green where she was very active for many years. She belonged to the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading and her favorite past time was visiting with others. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Peden, Keith Wescott, John Chesnut, Bob Tepen, John Hays and Jim Hubert.

Eldon Bruch Steers and Betty Jo Henderson had the following children:
