John died March 26, 1950 in Weirton, Hancock Co., WV. John was buried in Weirton, WV

He married Anna Redpath January 22,1921 in Brooke Co., WV. Anna was born 1886 in Allenport, PA. JOHN F. MATTHEWS JR. , son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Matthews, of Waxahachie, Texas. Entered the service of his country July 15, 1918. Assigned to Naval Training Camp, at Sharon, Pennsylvania. Following signing of the armistice, was granted discharge, and returned to civil life.

John Freeman Matthews and Anna Redpath had the following child:

 20648 i. George¹¹ Matthews was born in Homestead, Allegeny Co., PA July 3, 1906. Adopted by John Freeman Matthews George died in Havertown, Delaware Co., PA. He married Leona Bottelmy. Leona was born abt 1906.
