9098. Rufus Henry10 Matthews (Henry Sanford9, Charles Andrew Freeman8, Rebecca7 Allgood, William A.6, John Young5, William4 Algood, Edward3 Allgood, William2, Edward1 Algood) was born in Blountsville, Blount Co., AL January 6, 1886. Rufus died June 3, 1948 in Five Points, Chambers Co., AL.
He married Pearl Varnell January 12, 1908 in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. Pearl was born August 29, 1888 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Co., AL. Pearl was the daughter of Rufus Varnell and Ruth Dill. Pearl died May 28, 1948 in Five Points, Chambers Co., AL. F. C. Jones, indicated that: Rufus Sr. was a traveling salesman for the entire Southeast, selling, at one time or another "Tom-Cat" Overalls and other clothing, and shoes for the "Great-Atlantic Shoe Company". He was an accomplished piano player, playing entirely by "ear", without the need for sheet music, and also played the accordian. He was a wonderful story teller and loved a good joke, of which he had hundreds!
