Gladys died March 19, 2004 in Morganton, Burke Co., NC. Obit: Gladys Hutchens Weather-man, 89, of Winston-Salem, born June 10, 1915, died March 19, 2004, due to recent health complications.
She was the daughter of the late Harrison Windsor Hutchens and Versie Jane Allgood Hutchens, of Yadkin County. She was the widow of Jasper Miller Weather-man.
Mr. and Mrs. Weatherman spent 65 years together before his unexpected death. Mrs. Weatherman was a retired employee of Hanes Hosiery. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Weatherman restored many homes in their neighborhood and turned them into apartments for the students at the North Carolina School of the Arts. They had the opportunity to rent to many accomplished musicians, actors and dancers, many of whom are performing artists across the country.
Survivors include a son, Robert M. Weatherman (Gwen) of Winston-Salem; and daughter, Jane W. Stanley (John) of Jamestown.
She is survived by brothers, Wallace and Gilbert Hutchens; and sister, Joyce H. Dinkins and Ruth H. Holcomb of Yadkin County, and Betty H. Thompson of Halifax.
Proceeding her in death are a sister, Lillian D. Hutchens; and brother, Herbert (Buck) H. Hutchens.
Mrs. Weatherman was blessed with six grandchildren whom she loved and cared about deeply, Emilie W. Johnson (Winston-Salem), Brian K. Stanley (Raleigh), Vivian W. Baird (Wake Forest) Andrew M. Weatherman (Yadkinville) Laura Jane S. Collson (Jamestown) and R. Bradford Weatherman (Phoenix, Ariz.) She was further blessed with eleven great-grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her famous cakes, both chocolate pound cakes and rich banana cakes, as well as her pledge to be a good grandmother to them. She said many times that she wanted to be a good grandmother because she never had one. Mrs. Weatherman believed in the "sprinkle" effect. We know now that her love and blessings from heaven are being sprinkled on her children and many grandchildren.
Mrs. Weatherman’s Celebration of Life service was held on Sunday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Faith at Parklawn Memorial Gardens at 2730 Peters Creek Parkway by the Rev. Jack Yarbrough of Centenary United Methodist Church. Following the service the family received friends at the Chapel and at 516 Barrett Road, Winston-Salem.
The family expresses a special thanks to Dr. Greg Pinkerton and his devoted hospital staff; to the Acute Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center; and to Latanya Conrad and Debbie Wood, her caregivers, for the tender and loving care they showed her until her death. A special thanks to Rev. Jack Yarbrough of Centenary United Methodist Church for his love and comfort during her illness.

She married Jasper Miller Weatherman June 5, 1936. Jasper was born July 15, 1914 in Yadkin Co., NC. Jasper was the son of Isaac Virgil Weatherman and Valley S. Holcomb. Jasper died August 27, 2001 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC. OBIT: Mr. Jasper Miller Weatherman, 87, our beloved father and husband, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born July 15, 1914, in Yadkin County to the late Isaac V. and Vallie Holcomb Weatherman.
Mr. Weatherman was retired from Dr Pepper Bottlers and from Sealtest Dairies. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church in Yadkinville and was a member of the Woodmen of the World Society. On June 5, 1936, he married his wife of 65 years, Gladys Hutchens Weatherman, who survives of the home. Also surviving are his son, Robert Miller Weatherman of Winston-Salem; his daughter, Jane Weatherman Stanley and husband, John W. Stanley, of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Emilie W. Johnson of Winston-Salem, Vivian W. Baird of Wake Forest, Andrew M. Weatherman of Yadkinville, Robert M. Weatherman of Phoenix, Ariz., Brian K. Stanley of Raleigh and Laura S. Collson of High Point; and eight great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at the Parklawn Memorial Gardens Chapel by the Rev. Lisa Wishon. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parklawn Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Center United Methodist Church, c/o Patty Harrison, 1500 Center Road, Boonville, NC 27011. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Weatherman family.
