She married James Richard May. James was born November 10, 1921 in Chambers Co., AL. James was the son of James R May and Gertrude Corley. James died May 25, 2007 in Richland, Stewart Co., GA. Obit: James Richard May, Jr., 85, formerly of Phenix City, Alabama, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Four County Nursing Home in Richland. A graveside service with military and Masonic honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. ET Friday, May 25, 2007 at the Lakeview Memory Gardens Cemetery in Phenix City with Rev. Roy Cobb, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Richland. Mr. May was born November 10, 1921 in Chambers County, Alabama to James R. and Gertrude Corley May, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife of 48 years, Edna Earl Newsome May, by a brother Earl "Buddy" May and by two sisters, Mavis May and Eugenia May. Mr. May had a great love of building things, which he applied in residential and then commercial construction for many years. He worked for Comer Alexander Construction in Columbus, Georgia early in his career and later for Marathon Construction Company of Atlanta, Georgia. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Mason with the Wilson William Lodge # 351 in Phenix City, and he was a great father and grandfather. Survivors include his two sons, Kenneth E. May and wife Phyllis of Cusseta, Georgia and James Michael May and wife Patsy of State Road, North Carolina; grand children, Krista Macemore of Jonesville, North Carolina, Kristy O'Steen of Phenix City, Amber May and Kenny May both of Cusseta; a great grandchild Cole Macemore of Jonesville; and a special niece Pansy Lott of Albany, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Columbus, P.O. Box 185, Columbus, GA 31902 or to the Muscogee County Humane Society, 7133 Sacerdote Lane, Columbus, GA 31907. Smith Funeral Home of Richland, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
