William died January 28, 2007 in Hartford, Madison Co., IL. Obit: William "Bill" McCann, 83, died at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
A son of William and Bessie (Rhoades) McCann, he was born March 25, 1923, in Hartford. He and the former Rosemary Partridge were married on June 18, 1966. She preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1993.
Employed as a welder at Olin Corporation in East Alton, he retired in 1989. The World War II U.S. Navy veteran served aboard the USS Submarine Gar and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308 of Alton.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Jeff Johnson of Bunker Hill and Vickie and Shane Wright of Brighton; a son, Willie McCann of Brighton; three grandchildren, Stephany Johnson, Kara and MaKayla Kessinger; three stepgrandchildren, Kyle, Ethan and Megan Wright; two sisters, Maurine Boren and Juanita "Skeet" Boren, both of Pittsfield; and a brother, Basil McCann of Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Landers Funeral Home in Bunker Hill, where the Rev. LeRoy Fahnestock will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to Research for Myelodysplasia Atelectasis.
He married twice. He married Rosemary L. Partridge June 18, 1966 in Macoupin Co., IL. Rosemary was born June 30, 1936 in Macoupin Co., IL. Rosemary was the daughter of Irvin Harold Partridge and Mary P. Ahrling. Rosemary died December 14, 1996 in Brighton, Macoupin Co., IL.
