William died May 20, 1982 in Pittsfield, Pike Co. IL. OBIT: WILLIAM CALVIN McCANN - 93, of Nebo, died Monday, May 24, 1982 at the Calhoun County Care Center in Hardin. He spent many years as a barber in Nebo and Hartford. He and his family were among the founders of Hartford, living in a tent for a time when the village was established during World War I. William Calvin McCann was born Sept. 13, 1888 in eastern Spring Creek township at the McCann home place near Tick Ridge. His father was Edward McCann, a Union veteran of the Civil War. His mother was Sarah Hammer McCann. He was preceded in death by brothers Eldon and Arthur, a sister, Florence, half-brothers James and Sylvester, and a half-sister, Delila. He married Bessie Nora Rhodes in Hardin on Jan. 13, 1910. She is currently residing at the Calhoun County Care Center. The were married for more than 72 years. He is also survived by his seven children, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. the children are Basel of Columbus, Mt.; Leonard of El Dara; Maurine (Mrs Lyndle) Boren of Pittsfield; Imogene (Mrs Hubert) Laux of Pearl; Berdell of Hartford; Bill of Fosterburg; and Jaunita (Mrs Bruce) Boren of Nebo. Services were held on May 27 at Hanks Funeral Home in Pearl with Bro Wilson Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Greenpond cemetery. Mr McCann was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Bessie Norah Alta Rhodes January 13, 1910 in Calhoun Co., IL. Bessie was born Septembe 27, 1893 in Pike Co., IL. Bessie was the daughter of William Rhodes and Lydia Hudson. Bessie died September 2, 1988. Bessie was buried in the Greenpond Cemetery
