Neil Rush Smith was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Dallas County, the son of the late William Henry and Priscilla Isadora (Rush) Smith. He died April 5, 2002, in Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, at the age of 76 years, two months and two days.
He was reared in rural Dallas County and attended Cloverdale School. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served his country proudly.
He was united in marriage for 54 years of happiness to Margaret Hood and this union was blessed with five children.
He was a quiet and caring person, and his love and devotion to his family was evident in all that he did. He was a special person to all who knew him. He had a special kind of understanding of life and nature. He spent his working life driving a truck, hauling anything that would fit on it. He retired in the mid 1980s.
Fishing and squirrel hunting were favorite pastimes. Animated toys and games were a hobby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; four brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild.
Survivors include his two sons: Bill Smith and Michael Smith, Pleasant Hill; three daughters: Ann Norman and Pat Hostetter, Waverly, and Sue Gaddy, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a special nephew, Noel Smith; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends who will all sadly miss him.
He married Margaret Louise Hood. Margaret was born January 8, 1927. Margaret was the daughter of George Hood and Annie (___). Margaret died January 8, 1996 in Buffalo, Dallas Co., MO. Obit: Margaret Louise Smith January 8, 1927-January 8, 1996

Margaret Lousie Smith, age 69, of Buffalo was born on January 8, 1927, and died on her 69th birthday at a friend's home north of Buffalo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Hood; one brother, George Hood; and one grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Neil, of the home; two sons Michael and Bill Smith, both of Pleasant Hill; three daughters: Sue Gaddy of Orlando, Florida, Pat Hostetler of Waverly and Ann Norman of Ann Norman of Houstonia; four brothers: Jim Hood of Pleasant Hill, Frank Hood of Independence, Tom Hood of Richmond and Charley Hood of Buffalo; one sister, Shirley Jasper of Buffalo; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; also a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends who will all sadly miss her.
