He married Margaret Rosalee Coffman December 31, 1936. Margaret was born September 30, 1914 in Putman Co., IN. Margaret was the daughter of Edgar Earl Coffman and Ruby Dove Brown. Margaret died May 12, 2001 in Greencastle, Putnam Co., IN. Obit: Margaret Rosalee Modlin, 86, Greencastle, died Saturday at Asbury Towers Healthcare.
Born Sept. 30, 1914 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Edgar Earl and Ruby Dove (Brown) Coffman.
A 1932 graduate of Bainbridge High School, she graduated from Central Normal Teachers College in Danville, and had attended DePauw University and Indiana State University. She had been an elementary teacher at Russellville, Bainbridge, Roachdale, Clinton Center and Fillmore. She retired in 1976 from Mill Creek Schools in Hendricks County after teaching 30 years.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Greencastle; Christian Women's Fellowship, Washburn Chapter DAR, Order of Eastern Star, ISTA, Classroom Teachers Association, and the Veronica Club.
She was a former member of Bainbridge Christian Church and Roachdale Christian Church.
She married Damon R. Modlin on Dec. 31, 1936. He died Dec. 15, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Stephen Earl Modlin and wife Patricia, Greencastle; a daughter, Sidney Adelia Modlin Scholl, Sonoma, Calif; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant sister.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Rusty Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Brick Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.
