Alice Rae¹¹ Smith (Bennie M.¹⁰, James Monroe⁹, Conway W.⁸, Priscilla⁷ Allgood, Wyatt⁶, William (Pikey) Henry⁵, William John⁴, Edward³, William², Edward¹ Algood) was born in Lincoln Co., MS May 25, 1920. Alice died November 21, 2011 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Funeral services for Alice Ree Cupit, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Friendship Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cupit, 91, died Nov. 21, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Lincoln County on May 25, 1920, to Bennie Smith and Alma Vaughan Smith.

She graduated from Loyd Star High School and retired from the Lincoln-Lawrence-Franklin Regional Library where she worked for 59 years. She drove the Book Mobile to the rural children of the communities where she touched many children's lives. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling to 48 different states. Mrs. Cupit was a lifetime member of Friendship Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for 65 years. She also held the position of church clerk for 45 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, James L. Cupit; and brother, Marrell "Shorty" Smith.

Survivors are her daughter, Mary Frances Cupit, of Brookhaven; sisters-in-law, Para Lee Smith and Lela Cupit; nephews, Ronald Smith and wife, Ann, and Keith Smith and wife, Sue; honorary granddaughters, Cassie Smith Case and husband, Karsten, and Maggie Smith Woolley and husband, Clay; honorary grandsons, Jacob Case, Kade Case, Layton Woolley and Macel Woolley; and a host of great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cupit's family gives a special thanks to her wonderful caregivers and family, Vanessa Smith, Helen Woods and the Hospice Ministries Staff.n

She married James Leo Cupit April 12, 1941 in Lincoln Co., MS. James was born June 22, 1917. James was the son of James C. Cupit and Emma Wroten. James died August 21, 1974 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. James was buried in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS.

Alice Rae Smith and James Leo Cupit had the following child:

 41499 i. Mary Frances¹² Cupit was born in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS July 1942. Mary died May 4, 2021. Mary never married.
