He married Elsie Rae Foster. Elsie was born December 11, 1919 in New Hebron Lawrence Co., MS. Elsie was the daughter of James Monroe Foster and Jessie A. Morris. Elsie died January 18, 2008 in Huntersville, NC. OBIT: Services for Elsie Foster Smith, of Huntersville, N.C., are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on Natchez Drive with burial in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Warnock will officiate services. Visitation is Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith, 88, died Jan. 18, 2008, at Olde Knox Commons Nursing Home. She was born in New Hebron on Dec. 11, 1919, to James Monroe Foster and Jessie Morris Foster. She was a homemaker. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Virgil Roy Smith; her brothers, Grady Foster, J.M. Foster and Delton Foster; her sisters, Eunice Hall, Audrey Hutson and Virginia Sandifer. Survivors are her son, Larry Smith and wife, Dianne, of Spring Lake, N.C.; her daughter, Cheryl Durham and husband, Lyndon, of Kannapolis, N.C.; her brothers, Earl Foster, of Brookhaven, and Paul Foster and Clayton Foster, both of Natchez; her sister, Essie Meyers, of Brookhaven; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith St. Suite 203, Davidson, N.C. 28036.
