Ivan died April 19, 2005 in Central, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA. OBIT: IA retired employee of Carter Chambers and a lifelong resident of Central, he died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at his home. He was 72, a native of Brookhaven, Miss., and a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, and in the chapel from noon Saturday, April 23, until service at 2 p.m.Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by two daughters, Beth Nevels Calloway, Hammond, and Anna Nevels McMahon, Baton Rouge; three sons, John Michael Nevels, Denham Springs, Ivan H. Nevels II, Baton Rouge, and Byron Nevels, Smithdale, Miss.; sister, Doris Brown, Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Fraser and Virginia Worley; four brothers, W.E., Ralph, Robert and Howard Nevels, all of Mississippi; grandchildren, ChristaBird, Lara Crafton, Brandi Nevels, Erin Nevels, Jordan Nevels, Terry Lambert, Brittany McMahon and Quinn McMahon; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sammye K. Nevels; parents, Elmer andAnna Nevels; and six siblings.
He married twice. He married Bobbie Nell Jordan June 2, 1956 in Lincoln Co., MS. Bobbie was born February 23, 1935 in Lincoln Co., MS. Bobbie was the daughter of Grady Corban Jordan and Orbie Louisa Lewis. Bobbie died March 17, 1996 in Smithdale, Amite Co., MS. Bobbie was buried in Mt. Gilead Primative Baptist Church Cemetery, Meadville, Franklin Co., MS.
He married Sammye Lea Kennedy March 3, 1963. Sammye was born February 7, 1937 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., OK. Sammye died November 17, 1991 in Central, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA.
