He married Ruby Lee Newell February 1944 in Lincoln Co., MS. Ruby was born January 8, 1926 in Lincoln Co., MS. Ruby was the daughter of Abram Caldwell Newell and Haley Jane Newll. Ruby died May 4, 2012 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Funeral services for Ruby Lee Newell Britt, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Sullivan and the Rev. David Lambert will officiate. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Britt, 86, died May 4, 2012, at King's Daughters Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 8, 1926, to A.C. Newell Sr. and Haley Jane Newell Newell.
She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church in Brookhaven.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, James Ollion Britt; one daughter, Joyce Elaine Floyd; son-in-law, Charles Floyd; one granddaughter, Stephanie E. Hudson; five sisters, Ellie Jenkins, Arie Nell Hudson, Jodie Finfrock, Ola Hale and Rosie Barlow; and two brothers, Russell Newell and A.C. Newell Jr.
Survivors are her son, Mitchell Britt and wife, Sherry, of Brookhaven; daughter, Patsy Claville and husband, Les, of Covington, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Scott Hudson, Byron Floyd and wife, Paige, Lacey Britt, Matt Britt and wife, Jessica, Jamie Claville and wife, Connie, Joey Claville and wife, Kristy, and Julie Harris and husband, Matt; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Avis Smith, Bess Britt and Wessie Newell; and several nieces and nephews.
James Ollion Britt and Ruby Lee Newell had the following children:
