Michael died August 10, 2008 in Flora, Clay Co., IL. OBIT: Mike D. Smith, 67, of Xenia, IL died at 1:10 AM Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Clay County Hospital in Flora, IL.
He was born June 2, 1941 in Flora to Edgar & Winnifred (Smith) Smith. He married Carolyn Sue Young on August 31, 1963 in Xenia.
He was a retired grain & hog farmer and also retired from Knapp Oil Company in February 2004 after 41 years. Mike enjoyed gardening, cutting brush, being outdoors, and collecting toy trains & tractors.
He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Sue Smith of Xenia; son & daughter-in-law: Darrell Wayne & Stacy Jo (Anderson) Smith of Xenia; grandsons: Seth Lowell Smith & Grant Michael Smith both of Xenia; sisters: Lela Rogers & husband Jim of Xenia, Gail Lewis & husband Carlon of Iuka; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Carl & Betty Young of Iuka, Robert & Rachaelann Young of Iuka, Mary Young of Dothan, AL, and Betty Lou & Eugene Eck of Louisville; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Floral Garden of Memories, Flora. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cure PSP Society and may be received at the funeral home.
He married Carolyn Sue Young August 31, 1963 in Xenia, Clay Co., IL.
