Doris¹¹ Smith (Annie Laura¹⁰ Walker, Sarah Frances⁹ West, Sarah (Sally)⁸ Allgood, William A.⁷, Wyatt⁶, William (Pikey) Henry⁵, William John⁴, Edward³, William², Edward¹ Algood) was born April 29, 1926. Doris died January 29, 2005 in Jackson, Hinds Co, MS. OBIT: Services for Doris Smith Strait, of Hazlehurst, are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Strait, 78, died Jan. 29, 2005, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was born in Brookhaven on April 29, 1926, to William Benjamin Smith and Annie Laura Walker Smith.

She was retired from Sears and Lofton's Department Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. In 1946, Mrs. Strait married her high school sweetheart, Billy Price Strait. Together they raised five children, instilling in them a love for the Lord as well as the need for a college education. She served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Missionary Union. Her devotion for her family and church was evident in her untiring efforts to serve both with untiring joy, love and patience.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her husband, Billy P. Strait, of Hazlehurst; her daughters, Sylvia Strait Chapman, of Topeka, Kan., Becky Strait Howard, of Nashville, Tenn., Jenny Strait Davis, of Baton Rouge, La., and Billie Dawn Strait, of Hazlehurst; her son, Jay Strait, of Hazlehurst; her sister, Winifred Foster, of Brookhaven; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst.

She married William (Billy) Price Strait July 2, 1946. William was born December 6, 1924 in Lincoln Co., MS. William was the son of Willie Jay Strait and Ella Earnestine Price. William died May 3, 2014 in Hazlehurst, Copiah Co., MS.

Doris Smith and William (Billy) Price Strait had the following children:
