Luther died April 13, 2006 in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC. OBIT: Luther S. Steelman, 84, of Salisbury, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 3, 1921, in Davie County, Mr. Steelman was a son of the late Jesse Mae Taylor Steelman and Eugene Sanford Steelman. Educated in Davie County schools, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was self-employed in residential construction and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include sons Sanford Steelman and wife Jeanette of Mocksville and Jimmy Steelman and wife Renee of Madison; daughters Doris Houston, Colleen McCubbins , Tammy Scoggins and Phyllis Stratton, all of Salisbury; sisters Ann Grisson of Michigan and Hazel Gatewood of Winston-Salem; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Service : 10 a.m. Monday at Lyerly Funeral Home 's James C. Lyerly Chapel conducted by the Rev. Chris O 'Guinn. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Salisbury with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard. Visitation : 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lyerly Funeral Home. Memorials : Community Baptist Church, 325 Calhoun St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

He married Mary Lou Cooper. Mary was born August 13, 1922 in Greenville, Greenville Co., SC. Mary was the daughter of George Cooper and Pearl Wilson. Mary died January 29, 2003 in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC. OBIT: The funeral will be Saturday for Mary Lou Cooper Parker, 80, who died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a month of serious illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1922, in Greenville, S.C., Mrs. Parker was a daughter of the late George and Pearl Wilson Cooper. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Formerly employed at Klumac Mill, she was a former member of Community Baptist Church.

Her husband, Edward Parker, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Sanford Steelman, Mocksville, and Jimmy Steelman, Madison; daughters Tammie Scoggins, Colleen McCubbins, Doris Houston and Phyllis Stratton, all of Salisbury; brothers Harold E. Cooper, Granite Quarry, and James Edward Cooper, Salisbury; sister Willie Mae Morris, Granite Quarry; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gene Beaver, pastor, Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis.Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home. t
