He married Lyla Jane Herzog October 12, 1947. Lyla was born Fewbruary 27, 1925 in Montgomery Co.,
IL. Lyla was the daughter of Edward Oliver Herzog and Melinda Reincke. Lyla died August 4, 2009 in Vandalia,
Fayette Co., IL.
OBIT: Lyla Jane Darnell, 84, of Vandalia, died at 6:34 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at South Fork United Methodist Church in rural Nokomis, with the Revs. Louis Frick
and Rick Miles officiating. Burial will be in Kettlekamp Cemetery in rural Nokomis. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at
Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia and an hour before services on Friday at the church. Memorials: OUR PLACE. Mrs. Darnell was born
on Feb. 27, 1925, in Nokomis, the daughter of Edward O. and Melinda Reincke Herzog. She married Donald "Don" Frank Darnell on Oct. 12,
1947, in Nokomis; he died on July 4, 2007. She was a secretary for Pioneer Seed Corn Co. in Morton, and was a member of First
United Methodist Church in Vandalia. She is survived by a son, John Darnell and his wife Jan of Pekin; daughters, Jane Rassi of
Vandalia, and Joann and her husband Virgil Eddington of Golconda; brother, Carroll "Dusty" Herzog and his wife Jean of Excelsior Springs,
Mo.; sisters, Bernice Kessinger of Overland Park, Kan., Marian Stauder of Nokomis, and Josephine Barringer and Virgil Wayne of Nokomis;
grandchildren, Darci and her husband Kyle Bolenbaugh, JJ. Taylor and his wife Stacy, Jeremy Darnell and his wife Kim, Jason Rassi, Jenna
Rassi, Rick Eddington and his wife Regina, and Linda and her husband Paul Rhymer; great-grandchildren, Damien Taylor, Alex Taylor, Maggie
Bolenbaugh, Ricky Eddington and his wife Amanda, Michelle Fleming, Justin Eddington, Luke Rhymer, Amber and her husband Adam Biggers, and
Hank Bolenbaugh; and great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Jackson, Peyton, Emma, Kealey, Brodie and Ashton Lee Eddington. She was
preceded in death by her parents and husband.
