OBIT: Niki Jean Walraven, 51, of Mapleton, Ill., passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, surrounded by her
loving family. She was born May 27, 1958, in Peoria to Kenneth and Harriett (Hinshaw) Sheppard. She married Dennis Keith
Walraven on July 8, 1978, in Peoria. Her husband and father survive. Also surviving are her two children, Trisha Ann (Jeremy)
Gatewood of Mapleton and Greggory Kenneth Walraven of Peoria; sisters, Penny Callaway of Bartonville and Lori (Tim) Newlin of Peoria; and
brothers, Ted (Chris) Sheppard of Peoria and Ned (Kathy) Sheppard of East Peoria. One grandchild survives, Antonio A. Gatewood of Mapleton.
She was preceded in death by her mother. Niki graduated from Manual High School and attended Illinois Central
College. Niki was a claims representative for the state of Illinois Department of Employment Security, retiring after 20 years
of service. In her post-retirement years, she was church secretary at Grace Lutheran Church in Canton for five years, then office manager at
Rural Peoria County Council on Aging. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. She had a
great sense of humor and loved practical jokes. Niki was known as a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother. Niki
was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Canton. Hers was a life of service to others as she lived her Christian faith. Niki's favorite
saying was "Life is precious." So was she. She was very much loved by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
