Gladys died September 16, 1999 in Lexington, Davidson Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Gladys Hutchins Hayes, 83, of Community Road, Lexington, died Wednesday, September 16, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 7, 1916 in Davie County to Grover Cleveland Hutchins and Ester Vestal Hutchins. She married John H. Hayes in 1934, he died in 1979. Mrs. Hayes retired from Hanes corp. in 1975 after 40 years service. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, John Melvin who died in 1938; a daughter, Joanne Hayes Wood who died in 1995; a sister, Lillian Snow; and three brothers, Edgar, Grover, and Billy Hutchins. Surviving are her grandson, John W. Wood and wife, Vickie of Arcadia; one brother, Bob L. Hutchins and wife, Helen of Winston-Salem; three great-grandchildren, Teresa Wood Hulin and husband, Terry, Jeremiah Wood, and Zachary Wood; one great-great-grandson, T.J. Hulin; sister-in-law, Norris Hutchins; brother-in-law, Rev. Hobert Snow; son-in-law, Bill Wood; and several nieces, nephews, and good friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Arcadia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alton Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
She married John H. Hayes 1934. John died 1979.
