He married twice. He married an unknown person. He married Sarah Nell Smith March 15, 1949 in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC. Sarah was born July 6, 1928 in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC. Sarah was the daughter of William Rex Smith and Grace Homey. Sarah died November 10, 2006 in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC. OBIT: Sarah Nell Smith Drum, 78, of 1933 Old Wilkesboro Road, Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Iredell Memorial Hospital . She was born on July 6, 1928, in Statesville, and was the daughter of the late William Rex Smith and Grace Horney Smith. Mrs. Drum was a graduate of Statesville High School and on March 15, 1949, was married to Thomas Leroy Drum, who passed away Sept. 22, 1995. She was a homemaker and had worked at Drum Supermarket for a number of years. She enjoyed gospel music shows and working puzzles, was a wonderful cook, and had a big passion for and enjoyed dancing. She was a loving wife, mother and friend, and was a lifelong member of Pressly Memorial A.R.P. Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Drum was preceded in death by six sisters, Clara Tate, Mary Newton, Sadie Crawford, Lois Drum, Wilma West and infant Louise Smith; and a brother, Rex Smith Jr. She is survived by two sons, Stephen Lee Drum and wife, Sharon, of Statesville, and Dennis Keith Drum of Sherrills Ford; a daughter, Terri Drum Abshire and husband, J.D., of Statesville; a granddaughter, Candice Michelle Drum; a number of nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law; and sisters-in-law. Private family graveside funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at Oakwood Cemetery.
