Vara died July 9, 2011 in Memphis, Shelbly Co., TN. OBIT: Vara B. Glisson, 83, of Cordova, passed away July 9, 2011. She retired as cashier from Jefferson Ward (formerly J. B. Hunters) and was an avid Memphis State (University of Memphis) basketball fan since 1974. Mrs. Glisson, the widow of James W. Glisson is survived by her son, Gary L. Glisson and his wife, Becky, of Munford; her daughter, Judy Glisson Smith and her husband, Dr. Rick Smith of Cordova; grandchildren, Heather Glisson Moore and her husband, Brandon of Memphis, Hollie Glisson of Millington, Mary Sue Glisson of Munford, Ashley Smth of Little Rock, AR and Daniel Smith of Memphis; great-grandson, A. J. Glisson of Millington; and her sisters, Ruth Riddle and her husband, Jim, of Oakland and Virginia Brooks of Pontotoc, MS. The family will receive friends Monday evening, July 11, from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. The service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the funeral home with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens.
She married James W. Glisson. James was born December 21,1930. James was the son of Isham Glisson and Eunice Ila (__). James died October 21,1989 in Crockett Co., TN.
