Joyce died September 4, 2000 in Ruston, Lincoln Parrish, LA. OBIT: Joyce Ann Parish Woods, 71, of Hot Springs, formerly of Crossett, died Monday, September 4, 2000, in the Longleaf nursing care facility in Ruston, LA. Born March 9, 1929, to Frank and Emma Cooper Parish in Crossett, she was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett, and an active member of the Junior Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don Parish. Survivors include her husband, Fred E. Woods of Hot Springs; a son, Fred E. Woods, Jr., and wife Felice of Zachary, LA: a daughter, Mary Anne Lewis and husband Joey of Ruston, LA; a sister, Lucille Bryant and husband James of Bastrop, LA: and five grandchildren, Sarah and Caleb Nelson and Blake, Lewis and Rachel Latil. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, in the First Baptist Church of Crossett with Dr. David Newberry officiating. Pallbearers were Neil and Richard Chamberlain, Don, Max and Robert Woods, Rick Williams, Stovall Farmer and Joe Harper. Burial followed services at the Lakewood Cemetery, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. She married Fred Erston Woods. Fred was born May 26, 1927 in Crossett, Ashley Co., AR. Fred was the son of Buford B. Woods and Sarah Elizabeth Jeffress. Fred died November 27, 2004. OBIT: Fred Erston Woods, 77, former manager of Georgia Pacific's Crossett Operations, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Crossett on May 26, 1927, he graduated from Crossett High School and Arkansas A&M College, then served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked in the paper industry as his entire life's career, beginning at International Paper in Bastrop, La., then at Bowater in Cleveland, Tenn., where his two children were born. He moved back home to Crossett with Joyce and the babies in 1957, where he began his long career with Georgia Pacific, starting as a lab technician and ending as mill manager. In Crossett, Mr. Woods was an active member of the Rotary Club and the school board, and was a member of the board of directors of First National Bank of Crossett. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. In 1977, Erston and wife Joyce moved to Portland, Ore., where he was vice president of Publishers Paper, a subsidiary of Times Mirror. They retired to Hot Springs in 1983, where they lived until Joyce's death and Erston's illness in 2000.

Survivors include a son, Fred Erston Woods, Jr. of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Mary Anne Lewis of Ruston, La.; two grandchildren, Sarah Nelson Gentry and husband Ernie of Logan, Utah. and John Caleb Nelson of Ruston, La; two brothers Don Woods and wife Cathy of Farmerville, La. and Max Woods and wife Peggy of Crossett; a sister, Becky Woods Chamberlain and husband Richard of Jasper, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Parish of Petal, Miss. and Lucille Bryant of Bastrop, La; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Elizabeth Jeffress Woods and Buford Woods, also of Crossett. He was married for 50 years to Joyce Ann Parish Woods of Crossett, who passed away in September 2000.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Crossett with Rev. Larry White officiating. Interment followed at Lakewood Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
