Ruth died December 17, 2013 in Niangua, Webster Co., MO. OBIT: Ruth Irene Dodson Sawyer Houghton Lott was born on January 20, 1923 to Charles and Verda Dodson in Niangua, MO. She was united in marriage to Hugh Sawyer in 1939. That same year a son, Jimmie Charles Sawyer, was born. Ruth helped Hugh through seminary school and obtaining his Doctorate by putting in many hours at the typewriter. They were a remarkable team starting many churches in the Midwest. Hugh passed away of a massive heart attack in 1968. Ruth began to pursue her interest in antiques. She also was the secretary for a national Assembly of God organization flying cross country for meetings. While visiting her aunt and uncle in Arizona, she met James (Buddy) Houghton. They were married in Las Vegas in 1972 and both enjoyed traveling as he worked as a union carpenter. Buddy passed away in 1998. Ruth met Roy Lott at Western Sizzlin' Steak House and their wedding there in 2005 made national news due to their advanced ages. Roy and Ruth enjoyed club meetings and attending church. They shared eight happy months until Roy passed that same year. Ruth loved to have big dinners for the family; making special care to have everyone's favorite dish. She loved bluegrass and western swing music and reminiscing about her days traveling the United States. She also loved her antiques and was especially proud of her son's international journalism accomplishments. She had many friends and enjoyed many happy times with long-time companion, Carl Brown, who enjoy music and story-telling as much as Ruth. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Hazel Wilkinson and Helen Dodson; a brother, Roscoe (Rocky) Dodson and her son, Jim. She is survived by her grandchildren; Page Morgan, Jon Sawyer and Summer Davis and their spouses; five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Graveside service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Springfield, MO.
She married three times. She married James Champion Houghton JR. James was born February 1, 1927 in Ballinger, Runnels Co., TX. James died October 1,1998 in Springfield, Greene Co., MO. She married Roy C. Lott. Roy was born August 12,1916. Roy was the son of Harry Leonidas Lott and Martha Ann Somerville. Roy died May 11, 2005. She married Hugh Sawyer 1939. Hugh was born August 21,1919. Hugh died July 11, 1968.
Ruth Irene Dodson and Hugh Sawyer had the following children:
