Joseph died March 22, 2005 in Provo, Utah Co., UT. Joseph Newsome May 12, 1919 - March 22, 2005 Joseph Newsome passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on March 22. He was born on May 12, 1919 in Opelika, Ala., to parents Betty and Olin Newsome. Joseph attended school in Phenix City, Ala. He served in the army during World War II, in the infantry. He fought in three major battles. He Worked for Southern Bell in Columbus, Ga., where he retired. He served as Union President for three consecutive terms for CWA. Joseph served as Bishop for Columbus Georgia 2nd ward for seven years. He served as Branch President in Lanett, Ala., for three years. He was on the high council in Macon, Georgia Stake. He was always happy when serving in work or church positions. Joseph loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He married Mattie Lou Crenshaw on Jan. 23, 1943. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He married Margrit Franklin on March 13, 1990. Joseph is preceded in death by wife, Mattie Newsome April 19, 1989; brother, Carlton Newsome and step-daughter, Ingrid Draleau Franklin. Survivors include sisters, Grace Wade and Rosa Neal; one brother, Calvin Newsome; children, Brenda Galloway of Phenix City, Mike (Susan) Newsome of Lagrange, Ga.; Thomas Newsome of New York City, N.Y., Sally (Larry) Smith of Tallahassee, Fla., Jared Newsome of Provo, Utah, Luann Newsome of Provo; step-children, Fred Franklin of Phenix City, Randy (Colleen) Franklin of Cedar Hills, Utah, Sandy (John) Siversten of Provo, Angela (Robert) Bonosconi Orem, Utah, and Ronda Guertin of Provo; 30 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He married twice. He married Mattie Lou Crenshaw January 23, 1943. Mattie was born June 6, 1914. Mattie was the daughter of Don Crenshaw and Ethel (____). Mattie died April 19, 1989 in Opelika, Lee Co., AL. Mattie Lou is buried at Lake View Cemetery, Phenix City, AL
