She was born May 12, 1927 in Dallas County, Missouri, the daughter of Charley Everett and Flora Alice Williams Smith. She attended Dallas County, Missouri schools. Virginia Was employed with Banquet Foods in Marshall, Missouri. She retired in 1992 from the Marshall Rehabilitation Center, Marshall, Missouri after fifteen years of service as a Developmental Assistant II. She was a member of the Assembly of God, Dallas County, Missouri.

Virginia was married to Bill Smith of Dallas County, Missouri. There were five children born to this union. On July 10, 1955 she was married to Hebert Eugene (Gene) Thompson in Buffalo, Missouri. Two children were born to this union. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1996.

Survivors include five sons, Jackie Ervin Smith, Branch, Missouri, Charles Harlan (Toddy) Smith, Waubleau, Missouri, William Everett Smith, Kirbyville, Missouri, Melvin Eugene Thompson, Norborne, Missouri, Roy Leslie Thompson, of the home; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Smith Webster, Warsaw, Missouri; one brother Bobby Smith, Buffalo, Missouri; two sisters, Doris Dampier, Cross Timbers, Missouri, and Bonnie Faye Smith, Buffalo, Missouri; twleve granchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Billy Smith, one infant son, Jerry Wayne Smith and one granddaughter, Amanda Sue Castle.

She married twice. She married Hubert Eugene (Gene) Thompson July 10, 1955 in Buffalo, Dallas Co., MO. Hubert was born February 26, 1933. Hubert was the son of Les Thompson and Mae (__). Hubert died June 5, 1996 in Liberty, MO. Obit: Herbert E. (Gene) Thompson, age 63, of Norborne, Missouri, died June 5, 1996, at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri. He was born February 26, 1933, in Dallas County, Missouri, the son of Leslie and Mae Thompson. He attended school in Tunis, Missouri. He joined the Baptist Church as a young man. He was a retired farmer. A veteran, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On July 10, 1955, he was married to Virginia Ruth Smith in Dallas County, Missouri. She survives at the home. Other survivors include two sons, Melvin Thompson and Roy Thompson, both of Norborne; three step-sons, Jackie Smith, Macks Creek, Missouri; Toddy Smith, Weaubleau, Missouri; and William Smith, Mt. Leonard, Missouri; one step-daughter, Sue Webster, Lexington, Missouri; three brothers, Ethan, Melvin and Matt; three sisters, Josephine, Alphie, and Imogene; one grandson, Justin Thompson, Norborne; and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elvin. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 1996, at the Gibson-Rice Funeral Home in Norborne, conducted by Reverend Jimmy Bickell.

Virginia Ruth Smith and Bill Smith had the following children:
