Versie died March 3, 2010 in Ridgeland, Madison Co., MS. OBIT Services for Versie Ratcliff, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Brookhaven branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial in the Red Star Ward Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church until the time of the service.
Mr. Ratcliff, 93, died March 3, 2010, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was born in Lincoln County on July 25, 1916, to John Richard Ratcliff and Ida Smith Ratcliff.
He was a farmer, and worked in the oil field industry, and with the highway department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brookhaven branch.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Donis Louise Ratcliff; his brothers, Carlos, Rance, Sidney, Percy and Aliby Ratcliff; his sisters, Beatrice Leggett and Nellie Ward.
Survivors are his sons, John "Jimmy" Ratcliff, of Skipwith, Va., Gregory Ratcliff, of Brookhaven, and Russell Rushing, of Pennsylvania; his daughters, Betty Thompson and Robin Jackson, both of Brookhaven; and his 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He married Donis Louise Moak December 26, 1946 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. Donis was born November 26, 1922 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. Donis was the daughter of Jefferson Wiley Moak and Rosa Belle McFadden. Donis died November 15, 2004 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Donis Louise Ratcliff of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Brookhaven Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with burial in the Red Star Ward Cemetery of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home and Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Ratcliff, 81, died Nov. 15, 2004, at Countrybook Living Center. She was born in Brookhaven on Nov. 26, 1922, to Jefferson Wiley Moak and Rosa Belle McFadden Moak. She was a homemaker and former dietitian at West Lincoln School. She was a longtime member of the Brookhaven Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she was a member of the Relief Society. Over the years, she shared her love and nurturing spirit in her work as a dietitian and also as a foster mother and friend to over 34 foster children. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Ratcliff will be truly missed by her family. Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors are her daughters, Betty Thompson and Robin Diffrient Thompson, both of Brookhaven; her sons, John Jimmy) Ratcliff of Raleigh, N.C., Gregory Ratcliff of Brookhaven and Russell Rushing of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Countrybook Living Center and Horizon Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. Ratcliff. Memorials may be made to Horizon Hospice, 220 S.
