James died Julyl 30, 2006 in Minden, Webster Parish, LA. OBIT: "Jimmy" Newman, 80, of Minden, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at Heflin Baptist Church, with Dr. Mike Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery.Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 1. Newman died on July 30, after a long illness. He loved hunting and fishing and was a member of Heflin Baptist Church. He served in the Navy in WWII as a signalman in the Philippines. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lenox Walter Newman and Mollie Lillian Shell. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jinks Newman of Minden; two sons, Eugene Scott Newman and wife Margie of Anaheim, Calif., and Monte Newman and wife Johnnia of Minden; and three grandchildren, Eugene Scott Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jessica and James Colby Newman of Minden. Pallbearers will be Stewart Beatty, Joe Beatty, Richard Noles, Greg Wall, Todd Leake and Ralph Barnes.
He married twice. He married Margie Marie Sandifer March 23, 1946. Margie was born August 20, 1931 in Red Llick, Jefferson Co., MS. Margie was the daughter of Charlie E Sandifer and Zanie Eugenia Smith. Margie died February 27, 2011 in Plano, Collins Co. TX. OBIT: Marge passed from this life on February 27th, 2011, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 79. She was born August 20th, 1931, in Red Lick, Jefferson County, Mississippi. She was married for over 45 years to the love of her life, her "Sweetheart", Norman A. Bassett. Marge is preceded in death by her Father, Charles Sandifer; and her Mother, Zanie Smith; her Brothers, Charles Sandifer and Sherrod Sandifer; her Sister, Edna Sandifer Crawford; and her Husband, Norman A Bassett. She is survived by her Sons, Eugene Scott Newman and Wife, Margie Jean, Son, Kevin Robert Bassett and Wife, Sandra Cook Bassett; Grandsons, Eugene Scott Newman, Jr. and Wife, Lorien Evenstar and Ryan Jace Bassett Rideout; Great-grandchildren, Lillian Sunday and Riley Jene Newman. A Tribute service for Marge will be held Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at Green Tree Country Club, located at 4900 Green Tree Blvd, Midland, Texas.
He married Virginia Rose Jinks August 22, 1954.
