David died November 28, 2013 in Jackson, HInds Co., MS. OBIT: David Henry Calcote, 82 of Brookhaven, MS, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, Ms. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 849 Natchez Drive. He is survived by his wife, Kay Cowan Calcote, his daughters, Linda C. Hehemann of Little Rock, AR and Sue Calcote of Greeneville, TN, his grandchildren Will Hehemann and Ben Hehemann, Lachlan Bebout and Oona Bebout. He is also survived by siblings, Dorothy C. Poole of Memphis, James Calcote of Gulfport and Ruth C. Way of Georgetown, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Douglas and Dennis Calcote and John Moorer of Brookhaven. He was preceded in death by his parents William Henry Calcote and Ruth Smith Calcote, brothers Richard Calcote, Robert Earl Calcote and sisters Louise C. Moorer, Flora C. Byrd, Nellie C. Denman and Elsie C. White. David Calcote was a cattle farmer, timber grower, and retired teacher, having taught mathematics in Port Neches, Texas, Baton Rouge, LA and Co-Lin Junior College. He graduated from West Lincoln High School and Co-Lin Junior College, received his BS degree from Mississippi Southern University and a Master's degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, TN. Following his graduation from Mississippi Southern University, he served in the U.S. Army Security Agency in Germany from 1954-56. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, serving on the Board of Trustees and as president of the Methodist Men's Club. He was a member of the Lincoln County Forestry Association, the Wesson Lion's Club, the Camellia Club, the Socrates Discussion Group, the Men's Study Group and the Money Management Investment Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church or to a scholarship fund at Co-Lin Junior College established specifically for a student planning to be a mathematics teacher. Memorials may be sent to Co-Lin Foundation c/o David Campbell, P.O. Box 649, Wesson, MS 39191 in memory of David Calcote.
