Flora died June 1, 2009 in Jackson, HInds Co., MS. OBIT: Services for Flora Jean Calcote Byrd, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Brookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven.
Mrs. Byrd, 71, died June 1, 2009, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was born on April 15, 1938, to Cade Vernon Calcote and Mary Bernice Smith Calcote.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Byrd was Women's Missionary Union director at Pleasant Grove Baptist for many years. Her greatest accomplishments were being an outstanding Christian wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her father, Cade Calcote; her husband, James "Jamie" W. Byrd; and her sisters, Raye Calcote and Janice Saterfiel.
Survivors are her mother, Bernice Calcote; her sons, Kevin Byrd and wife, Carla, and Karl Byrd and wife, Dana; a daughter, Mary Karen Case and husband, Jason; her brothers, Mike Calcote and wife, Cheryl, Charles Calcote and wife, Cathy, and Chester Calcote and wife, Cheryl; a sister, Linda Faye Seymour and husband, Jerry; a mother-in-law, Aline Byrd; her brothers-in-law, Jerry Byrd and wife, Betty, Keith Byrd and Ken Saterfiel; a sister-in-law, Barbara Robinson and husband, Jerry; and her 10 grandchildren, Julie Case, Jay Case, Jared Case, Jena Case, Kody Byrd, Aaron Byrd, Karlton Byrd, Will Byrd, Matt Byrd and Alexis Byrd.
She married James William Byrd July 27, 1963 in Lincoln Co., MS. James was born October 11, 1937 in Lincoln Co., MS. James was the son of William Lee Byrd and Tennie Alyne Lofton. James died August 28, 2001 in Pike Co., MS. James was buried in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Lincoln Co., MS.
