Jennings died June 9, 2003 in Lincoln Co., MS. OBIT: Cremation services for Jennings Gifford Smith of Brookhaven will be held at Riverwood Memorial Park with burial following there. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, 78, died June 9, 2003, at King's Daughters Medical Center. He was born in Lincoln County on Nov. 21, 1924, to Edgar J. Smith and Mary Case Smith.

He was a retired geophysicist. He was a meteorologist in World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife, Nita Smith.

Survivors are his son, David A. Smith of Brookhaven; his daughter, Victoria Anne Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; his sisters, Donis Walker of Walker, La., and Geraldine Smith of Brookhaven.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries, Inc., 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.

He married Nita Mae (Noot) Duchamp June 11, 1948. Nita was born September 23, 1925. Nita was the daughter of Joseph Hypolite (Joe) Duchamp and Marie Nita Bienvenu. Nita died March 27, 2000 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. Nita was buried in Riverwood Memorial Gardens, Lincoln Co., MS.

Jennings Gifford Smith and Nita Mae (Noot) Duchamp had the following children:
